Cats, Dogs, and Transgender Aliens—Oh My! What Trump Got Wrong Last Night.

Dear Stonewall Democrats of San Antonio,

Wow, what a night! If you tuned into last night’s presidential debate, you might still be shaking your head—or maybe laughing to keep from crying. We certainly saw the return of Trump in all his... well, let’s call it “creative” form. It was a spectacle, to say the least.

Let’s start with the bizarre claim that immigrants are out here eating cats and dogs. Yes, you read that right. This kind of rhetoric is not just inflammatory, it's downright dangerous. But wait, it gets better. Who could forget the moment he dropped the bombshell about "transgender aliens"? I had to rewind just to make sure I heard that one correctly. We’re still not sure if he meant intergalactic visitors or some new conspiracy involving Area 51, but either way, it’s clear that truth wasn’t on the agenda.

It’s easy to laugh at these outrageous statements, but it’s also a stark reminder of why we must remain vigilant. One particularly concerning moment was when Trump seemed to confuse asylum seekers with an insane asylum. Let’s clarify for those who may have been as puzzled as we were:

  • Asylum Seekers: Individuals who flee their home countries due to persecution or fear of persecution based on race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion. They seek protection and safety in another country.

  • Insane Asylum: An outdated term referring to a psychiatric hospital where people with severe mental health issues were once treated, often under inhumane conditions.

It’s deeply troubling that someone who has held the highest office in the land doesn’t grasp the difference between these two concepts. This is exactly why we need to stay engaged, active, and ready to fight disinformation. We can’t afford to have unhinged Trump back in the White House, spreading lies and fear.

This is our moment to stand up, speak out, and ensure that facts, truth, and dignity win the day. Let’s continue to work together, support our candidates, and keep our focus on building a future that’s inclusive and just for everyone.

Onward together,

Daniel Pacheco
